Our History

Established in 1990 by people passionate about disability rights and independence who campaigned for us all to have the right to:

  • Live in our own home, in the community;
  • Choice, control and independence over how we live our life;
  • Access to support when we need it and not when we don't.

Throughout the years Freespace has strived to ensure that the people we work for are supported to have these principles carried out.  We encourage people to be involved in all levels of their own support planning, their staff teams and how the service is delivered and developed.

St Leonards was developed in 1990 and due to the success of this first service we now have five Freespace services with a sixth being developed in 2010.  We also provide a number of individualised services in the Edinburgh & Lothians area.
