FREESPACE - Morrison Crescent

Morrison Crescent is located near the Haymarket in Edinburgh and just off the Western Approach Road . Freespace works closely with Dunedin Canmore Housing Association who have provided seven wheelchair accessible flats since June 1995.

There are currently seven people living in their own homes. The tenants have their own tenancy agreements and Freespace provides the support packages.

The tenants are supported in their daily living by a support staff team of fourteen , with an additional eight relief staff on call to cover for sickness , holidays etc. The support staff work their shifts flexibly over a seven day period between 7am. and 9.30pm. There is also one waking nightshift who is assisted by a sleepover between 9.30pm. and 7am.

Tenants and staff communicate by using a two way radio system and each person has an emergency pendant which is linked into the radio system for use incase of emergencies.

Staff are based in a core flat in the same development as the tenants and respond to the individual radio calls for assistance. Once the persons needs have been met , staff will leave the persons house and return to the core flat to await the next call , thus ensuring the tenants privacy.
