St Leonards was the original Freespace site, situated in Edinburgh’s South Side. We opened in January 1990, following groundbreaking work by a steering group which had been set up in Edinburgh in the late 1980’s.
St Leonards is based on the “core and cluster” model. Staff are based in a “core flat” which is within radio contact of tenant’s homes. Akin to all of our other sites, we are based in mainstream housing estates – there is nothing to highlight there is any difference for tenants from their neighbours.
At St Leonards we have a “core” team of 16 members of staff. However, in addition to this we also have a number of relief staff, who are an intrinsic part of the team and who complement the service we offer to tenants.
We offer support to nine tenants, although there is room for development if the right property comes our way. Of the nine people we support, two have been with us from the very first week.
In order to be able to provide support for tenants which is of the highest quality, we pride ourselves on the quality of training which we offer to our staff. This includes a number of staff completing the accredited HEC in Person Centred Approaches course.
